Our Beginnings...
Sullivan’s Island Baptist Church is unique because it is located within the bounds of Fort Moultrie, which is the only military installation that actively served in every military conflict of the United States from its founding in 1776 through World War II. Guarded by two eight-inch cannons at what was the entrance to Fort Moultrie, it is the most heavily fortified church in the area!
A group of baptized believers organized into a mission under the sponsorship of Rutledge Avenue Baptist Church in June 1948. Rev. W.E. Abrams agreed to be the interim pastor of the newly formed mission. Rutledge Avenue rented the chapel in July 1948 and agreed to share with the Jewish residents of the Island. On October 4, 1949, the chapel was purchased from the War Assets Administration by Rutledge Avenue Baptist Church for the sum of $4,500. Of this amount, the member of the newly formed church paid $1,000. The mission made formal application on December 11, 1949 to Rutledge Avenue Baptist Church Requesting their permission to organize as a Southern Baptist Church. The application was unanimously approved on January 8, 1950 and the mission was constituted as Sullivan’s Island Baptist Church with seventy-five charter members. Rev. A.W. Coppedge was called as the first pastor. Over the years, Sullivan’s Island Baptist Church has endured Hurricane Hugo, seen growth of the Island, as well as many changes to the island culture. |

Here, every soul is welcomed with open arms, and every voice is heard with heartfelt reverence. In the intimate gatherings of worship, we experience great joy, hope, and unity as our prayers and songs are lifted to the Lord. Within these walls, friendships blossom, and bonds deepen as we share in the journey of faith together. Through heart-felt worship and gospel-centered teachings, the Spirit of God breathes life into our gatherings, igniting a passion for His timeless truth and unconditional love.
Our Vision & MissionWe are a community of imperfect people passionately pursuing transformed lives and relationships through treasuring the Gospel, glorifying God, and enjoying Jesus.

The Apostle's CreedI believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy [world-wide]* church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. *The Apostles Creed commonly uses the word “catholic” here which is an adjective meaning "all-encompassing." |
Our BeliefsWe believe in the ancient Christianity established by Jesus and the Apostles. We desire to live the Christian faith as described in the Bible. Modern Christianity has lived with the benefits of the ancient creeds for centuries. The following creed describes orthodox Christianity in a simple and understandable way.
Celebrating The Doctrines of GraceIn our community of believers, we come together to honor the boundless love and unmerited favor of our gracious God. Through heartfelt worship, fervent prayer, and deep study of His Word, we rejoice in the sovereign grace that saves, sustains, and sanctifies us.
Come, experience the richness of God's mercy and the depths of His unfailing love as we delve into the profound doctrines of election, predestination, and redemption. We find strength in unity and encouragement in the shared journey of faith. As we celebrate the Doctrines of Grace, we are reminded of our unworthiness and yet overwhelmed by the extravagant grace lavished upon us by our Heavenly Father. Join us as we lift our voices in praise and thanksgiving, exalting the name of our gracious God who, in His infinite wisdom, has chosen us as heirs of His eternal kingdom. In our community of believers, we revel in the boundless grace that flows freely from the heart of our loving Creator! |
